NZTA Launches New App for Drivers, Digital Driver Licences on the Horizon

30 April, 2024

The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) has introduced a new app designed to simplify vehicle-related tasks for drivers. The app, currently in its beta phase, allows users to manage their Vehicle Registrations, Warrants of Fitness, and Road User Charges (RUC) more easily.

According to Transport Minister Simeon Brown and Digitising Government Minister Judith Collins, this app is the first step towards implementing digital driver licences in New Zealand. The app will display expiry dates for Warrants of Fitness, Vehicle Registrations, and RUC end distances, making it more convenient for drivers to keep track of important dates.

Future updates to the app will include features such as easy toll payments and access to vehicle safety ratings. Minister Collins emphasized that the app is part of the government's efforts to digitize services, ultimately leading to better outcomes for the public.

The NZTA encourages Kiwi drivers to participate in testing the app and provide feedback, which will help improve its functionality before the final version is released on app stores in the coming months.
